PRE-LICENSING PROCEDURES

To obtain a license for a child care facility the following procedures must be followed by the applicant. If questions arise during the licensing process, consultation may be obtained by contacting the licensing office in your district Area.

Regulations governing the type of facility for which licensing is requested should be thoroughly understood by the applicant and used as reference prior to applying for a license.

I. APPLICATIONS:

1. All applications must be typed or printed.

2. Signed.

3. Dated.

4. Notarized.

5. All information requested on the application must be provided and complete.

6. The application, the appropriate fee, & a copy the following documents must be sent to the Santa Fe office: Zoning Approval, Certificate of Occupancy, Fire Inspection Report, Environment Department Approval (if applicable) & purposed activities & purposed activity schedule.

II.     FEES:

All applications for licensure must be accompanied by the required fee.

1. Fees must be in the form of a check, or money order.

2. Fees must be made payable too State of New Mexico, Child Care Licensing.

3. Fees are not refundable.

 

III.   ZONING AND BUILDING APPROVALS:

1. An applicant will have a current written zoning approval from the appropriate city, county, or state Authority.

2. An applicant will have current written building approval, such as a Certificate of Occupancy, from the appropriate city, county, or state authority.

 

IV. FIRE AUTHORITY APPROVAL:

1. An applicant will have, for the proposed facility or home, a current written approval of the State Fire Marshal Office or other appropriate city, county or state fire- prevention authority.

 

V. ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT APPROVAL:

1. An applicant will have written approval, as applicable, from the New Mexico Environment Department or other environmental health authority for the following;

a. A kitchen if meals are prepared on the site and served in the facility (not required for Family Child Care Homes).

b. Private water supply, if applicable.

c. Private waste or sewage disposal, if applicable.

d. A swimming pool for the proposed facility, if applicable.

 

VI.   CRIMINAL RECORDS CLEARANCE:

1. The New Mexico Regulations Governing Criminal Records Check find Employment History require that a fingerprint clearance for the Licensee (s) must have been received by the Licensing Authority from the State Police prior to the issuance of any license, Fingerprint cards for staff (as required) must be submitted to the State Police within five (5) days of hiring. Copies of these regulations and fingerprint cards may he obtained from floe Licensing Authority upon request.

 

VII. SCHEDULE:

All applications for new license will include a description of the facility's proposed activities and schedule.

VIII. HEALTH CERTIFICATES, FIRST AID:

1. All personnel will have documentation of being free of tuberculosis in a transmissible form prior to coming in contact with children.

2. One staff member who has current certification in FIRST AID & CPR will be present at all times.

IX. INITIAL SURVEY:

An initial survey will be scheduled when the Licensing Authority receives a complete application with all supporting documents.
