The Healthy Child Care
America Campaign, is a nationally focused initiative, jointly sponsored
by the Federal Child Care Bureau and the Maternal and Child Health
Bureau. It is based on the principle that families, child care providers
and health professionals in partnership can promote the healthy
development of young children in child care and increase access
to preventive health services and safe physical environments for
children.
The goals of the Healthy Child Care America Campaign are to provide:
- Safe, healthy child care environments for all children, including
those with special health needs
- Up-to-date and easily accessibly immunizations for children
in child care
- Access to quality health, dental, and developmental screening
and comprehensive follow-up for children in child care
- Health and mental health consultation, support, and education
for all families, children and child care providers
- Health, nutrition and safety education for children in child
care, their families, and child care providers.
Healthy Child Care New Mexico (Managed by CYFD, P&I
Division, Family Nutrition Bureau)
Grant Activities in New Mexico:
- "Environmental Health and Safety in Child Care" Curriculum currently
under development
- Educational workshops at the Regional Early Care and Education
Conferences on the topics of :
- Nutrition
- Inclusion of Children with Special Health Needs
- Immunizations
- Dissemination of health insurance information at the Regional
Early Care and Education Conferences and through the Training
and Technical Assistance Programs throughout the State to child
care providers and parents.
- Dissemination of health insurance information to child care
providers in Health Education Workshops on Medical Self-Care provided
by SET (Service, Empowerment and Transformation) Agency. These
workshops are sponsored by the Healthy Child Care New Mexico Program.
